There is a particular quality to an ordinary afternoon at home. The light through the kitchen window. The way your youngest laughs before she knows you're watching. The small rituals that will one day become the stories your children tell their own children.
These are not the moments that get planned. They simply happen - and then they are gone.
As They Are is a documentary family photography practice based in Durbanville, photographing families across Cape Town as they already are - not a version arranged for the camera.
I work quietly and observationally, gathering the true, in-between moments a posed portrait never reaches.
